Bettendorf High School

Bettendorf High School recognized the male and female Athletes of the Year at the school's annual All Sports Banquet on May 21.

• BHS Female Athlete of the Year - Emily See

The winners are selected from five male and five female finalists based on all-around athletic talent, number of major letters earned, attitude and conduct - citizenship, academic achievement, school contributions outside of athletics, and peer acceptance and leadership.

Emily See 

Emily is a three-sport athlete here at Bettendorf High School. In Cross Country, she is a four-time state qualifier, a three-time MVP (voted by teammates), voted captain of the team, was on 1st team all-Mac, and holds the school record at number 5 for fastest 5k. In Wrestling, Emily is a two-time state qualifier, has placed third at regionals, received recognition for Allstate academics, and was voted most spirited and mentally tough. In track, she is a four-time state qualifier, two-time captain, three-time Drake relay qualifier, and received the team's MVP award. Besides athletics, Emily is a four-year academic letter recipient, a member of the National Honors Society, has completed her CNA certification, and has become a certified lifeguard. Emily´s post-high high school plans are to attend Wichita State University, where she has received both academic and athletic scholarships. 

Chase Wakefield

Chase, a three-sport athlete, has earned 10 varsity letters: Cross Country (4), Soccer (4), and two in track. In cross country, Chase is a two-time all-area first team, four-time all-conference and state qualifier, and on the Bettendorf All-time leaderboard. Chase was voted team captain by his teammates.

In soccer, Chase is a three-time All-Conference first team, two-time team goal leader, team assist leader, 2nd team All-State, and three-time all-area first team. In track Chase has earned two varsity letters. In the fall, Chase will be attending Drake University
