Congratulations to the BHS Speech and Debate team for their success at their district tournament. Connor Hetner,10th Grade, qualified for the state tournament in Informative Speaking.
Five students qualified as alternates for nationals:
Aniya Gates - 11th Grade - 1st Alternate in Humorous Interpretation
Ishika Motwani - 10th Grade - 1st Alternate in Original Oratory
Mary Newman - 9th Grade - 2nd Alternate in Lincoln-Douglas Debate
Bri Seeley - 9th Grade - 1st Alternate in United States Extemporaneous Speaking
Ellie Winkler - 10th Grade - 1st Alternate in Lincoln-Douglas Debate and 1st Alternate in International Extemporaneous Speaking
BHS students also earned:
2nd Place in Overall Sweepstakes for East IA Districts
2nd Place in Debate Sweepstakes for East IA Districts
2nd Place in Speech Sweepstakes for East IA Districts
We're now going to focus on preparing for the second and last District event, which is this upcoming weekend: District Congress. We hope to qualify more students for Nationals. We had a very strong showing for a team consisting of only 1st and 2nd year members.
