Updated Quarantine & Isolation Recommendations

Updated Quarantine & Isolation Recommendations

Dec 11, 2020

Dear Bettendorf Families/Guardians,

The Iowa Department of Public Health has updated its quarantine and isolation recommendations to align with new CDC guidelines. We wanted to alert you to the changes. For a one-page summary, click here. For a flow chart, click here.

If a student has had close contact (within 6ft for more than 15 minutes) with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19 and was not consistently and correctly wearing a mask, he or she will quarantine with the following criteria:

14 Day Option - Best Practice - Keep your student at home for 14 days after last exposure.

  • Exposure date is “day zero”.
  • Your student can return to school on “day 15”.

10 Day Option - Keep your student at home for 10 days after last exposure.

  • Student was not tested or tested too soon (before 5 days from exposure date) AND student never had any symptoms.
  • If test results have not been received, continue to quarantine until test results have been received or through 7 days, whichever is longer.
  • Continue to monitor for symptoms for 14 days. Temperature checks twice a day. If symptoms develop, quarantine, contact Health Care Provider and consider testing

7 Day Option – Keep your student at home for 7 days after last exposure.

  • Student tests negative 5 or more days after exposure date AND student never had any symptoms.
  • Continue to monitor symptoms for 14 days. Temperature checks twice a day. If symptoms develop, quarantine, contact Health Care Provider and consider retesting.
  • Must provide a copy of a negative COVID test to school.

If the positive case is a household member and they cannot be completely isolated from others in the household, the case completes their own 10 day isolation before starting quarantine count for other household members (day 11 is day 1).

Bettendorf will continue to update its website on Friday evening with the number of staff and students for the current week who test positive and those in quarantine.
