Dear BCSD Parents/Guardians,

Please take a moment to review the most recent district technology updates.

Technical Support

We appreciate your patience as we work to ensure that each student is able to successfully access and utilize Canvas. As expected with any new learning management system, there are technology issues that need to be resolved. Teachers are receiving high volumes of emails requesting technology assistance. If you are experiencing technical difficulties and need support, please email our technology help desk at or call (563) 449-1088 Monday - Friday from 8 am - 4 pm. If this does not resolve your issue, feel free to reach out to the building principal to set up an appointment to get individual technology assistance.

Canvas Application (Grades PK-1)

There have been a number of compatibility issues with the Canvas app on the iPads. Until there is a more permanent solution, please use the web browser to access Canvas on the iPad.

Teacher Homepage (in Canvas)

To make Canvas more user friendly, every district teacher will include links to homework, assignments, and other important information directly on their Canvas homepage. Parents and students can expect to see this change no later than Sept. 28.

Parent Support

The District is currently planning multiple opportunities for parents to gain more knowledge and skills with regard to utilizing the Canvas learning management system. There will be a combination of virtual and in-person learning sessions offered that will be useful when supporting students at home. More information to come!

The District curriculum team is also in the process of creating a parent FAQ document that includes a series of screencasts that demonstrate how to perform specific functions within Canvas. The District will send a notification when it is finalized.

We appreciate and value your partnership.Thank you for your patience as we navigate these unique times in education.

Keeping our BCSD Community Informed
COVID-19 Status Update

In an effort to keep students, staff, parents, and the entire community aware of how COVID-19 is impacting our District, we plan to share as much information as possible, while protecting the privacy of those affected. Following the direction of the U.S. Department of Education, we will release details by District and not by building to ensure the privacy of our students and staff. Please note we will update this data at the close of each week and you will be able to view it on the District Return-to-Learn Webpage.

When the District is notified of a positive COVID-19 case through the health department, parent, or staff member, the building principal and nurse will begin to assist the health department to determine any individuals who may have been in close contact with the positive individual. For all close contacts, the health department and/or the school will be in contact with the family.

Policy Updates

Directors approved updates to board policies including:

This is a new policy provided by the Iowa Association of School Boards (IASB).The policy is a result of rule changes to Title IX issued by the Department of Education onMay 7, 2020.We have also received proposed procedures to comply with the new rule.
Change to allow the Superintendent to appoint the Affirmative Action Coordinator to provide flexibility for staffing.(Best practice is to name the position rather than a person because people can change.)Also updating addresses and phone numbers of the agencies.
Delete the previous language.New procedures have been provided by IASB based on new guidance for compliance with Title IX.The District will be following those new procedures and will add language to the employee handbook.
