Good Evening BCSD Parents/Guardians,

We are very excited to welcome your students back to school next Monday and Tuesday. It was wonderful seeing so many of you this week at the BMS “Back to School Day” and the BHS “Open House” for incoming freshmen.

We recognize that you and your student(s) are feeling an array of emotions as the first day of school approaches. We want to thank you for your continued patience as staff works around the clock to make the final preparations for the opening of the new school year.

We want to reassure you that great care and planning has been done to ensure student and staff safety. Classrooms have been deep cleaned; furniture has been re-arranged to ensure social distancing, hand sanitizing stations have been set-up in key places throughout the school buildings, schedules such as arrival, dismissal, recess, lunch, etc. have been re-worked to reflect our updated protocols; and cleaning supplies have been distributed to classrooms, cafeterias, etc. to ensure frequent sanitization of high-touch surfaces throughout the school day.

Our nursing team has worked collaboratively with our Human Resources department and the Scott County Health Department to develop protocols if a student or staff member should become ill. We will continue to work closely with the Scott County Health Department and follow their guidance when a student or staff member should show symptoms or become ill. Further, our nursing team has developed a video for you and your student(s) to watch together outlining the proper procedures for wearing a mask and how to remove your mask. The video can be found at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWxUdvtbE0w&t=54s.

When you return to school next week, you will notice that our Operations team has built and installed plexiglass partitions for our school offices. They have installed new signage reminding all persons entering our buildings that face masks are required. Floor markings have been placed in all buildings reminding students to follow social distancing guidelines.

We apologize for the delay in sending information out regarding the new learning management system, Canvas. As we went to go “live”, we encountered technical difficulties. Our Director of Instructional Technology has been working with the Canvas support team. Please see the information below on how to access and login to your Canvas account. We want to reassure you that your teachers are not expecting you or your students to have this new system all figured out by Monday. Your teachers will be supporting your student(s) in learning this new system as they return to school next week.

We are excited to share that BCSD will have meals available for students enrolled in the 100% online learning program, and for our students in the Hybrid program on the days they are engaged in remote learning. Meals can be ordered through your RevTrak account, either daily or weekly. Orders must be placed and received by 9 am each morning. Please see below for additional details.

We have also enclosed another copy of the 2020-2021 School Calendar with the A/B cohort days as well as a 2020-2021 School Year Calendar Summary for your reference.

Thank you for entrusting us with the education of your student(s).

Respectfully,

Dr. Michelle Morse
Superintendent
