Parent Update - March 24

Parent Update - March 24

Mar 24, 2020

BCSD Parents,

I am writing to provide a brief update on several matters.

Access to Technology Survey
Thank you to all who have filled out our Access to Technology survey. If you have not yet completed this, please do so. Online delivery, particularly if school closures get extended, is going to be our most effective tool to support student learning. Printed materials will be provided to families without access to technology. We are working on opportunities to expand access as we are able.

Academic Support Opportunities
Our plan is to have our academic support opportunities to students/parents by Monday, March 30. This will include both academic and social-emotional supports. Currently, faculty and staff are organized into deployment teams along curricular lines. While this teaming initially slows the launch of supports, it is critical infrastructure should we have extended closure.

Free Breakfast & Lunch for Children 0-18
As a reminder, any child 0-18 may receive free breakfast and lunch on a pickup basis daily (Monday – Friday) at Bettendorf Middle School, 2030 Middle Rd. or Neil Armstrong Elementary, 3311 Central Ave. between 11:30 am and 1 pm. The district is currently serving over 400 children/students.

The challenges that COVID-19 present are great. The district will stand with you as we meet critical health and safety expectations and support the continued educational development of your children.

Thank you,

Jim Spelhaug
Interim Superintendent
