At a special board meeting on July 17, the Bettendorf Board of Education approved the appointment of David Hlas to the position of Director of Special Services for the Bettendorf Community School District. The director of special services provides educational services for students entitled to special education, talented and gifted, English as a second language, and disability services.
Hlas holds a Master of Art in Administration and Supervision as well as Special Education Cross Categorical I from the University of Phoenix. He also has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary from the University of Northern Iowa.
Hlas was the principal at Neil Armstrong Elementary School for the last three years. Prior he was the Associate Elementary Principal for Hansen and Lincoln Elementary in Cedar Falls. He’s also served as an administrator as Elementary Principal and Special Education Director for Dunkerton School District and taught special education at the Ballard Middle School and 8th grade special education in Perry School District.
Hlas is replacing Kay Ingham who retired from the district in June.
