Choice Enrollment - Frequently Asked Questions
Permission to CHOICE enroll is based on several factors: the reason for the request, the availability of space in the school to which the transfer is requested, and whether or not the child's grade level is near maximum enrollment at the present school.
Parents must furnish transportation for students enrolled through "Choice" in other than their home school unless a bus route already exists from the child's home or school to the school in which he/she has CHOICE enrolled. In a case where a bus route already exists from the child's home or school to the school of "Choice," a fee of $100 per semester will be charged for bus transportation. Elementary principals have further information and request forms for choice enrollment
What is CHOICE enrollment?
A parent or guardian residing in one home school attendance area may request enrollment for their child in another attendance area, provided an application for enrollment has been approved by the administration.
How do I apply?
Application forms may be obtained each year at the elementary school offices on or after the kindergarten round-up date. The completed form will then be returned to the principal of the school where the student is now attending or is assigned to attend for the next school year.
Does each child need to file an application?

Elementary students are provided free transportation only if they live more than two miles from their home school attendance center. Arrangements for paid transportation can be made with the Transportation Department at (563) 332-8600.
Can my request be denied?
Placement will be made on availability of space and class size equity district-wide.
What are my options if the CHOICE enrollment application is denied?
An application for another attendance center can be filed with the principal of the home school attendance center.
What are the procedures for placement of CHOICE enrolled students into an elementary school?
A child living in the attendance area shall have a priority claim on the available space. A parent may request an elementary school for placement. Placement is made for the entire school year, based on the availability of space. This placement will be considered the "home school" placement of the child for the student's elementary school career.
