January 17-19 - Grade 3 - Adult
Write a story in 48 hours and 1,000 words or less. We’ll give you a genre, character (e.g., bus driver), and specific object to incorporate into your story.

Camp Abe Lincoln Winter Break Day Camp - Dec. 30-Jan. 3
Winter Break Day Camp with bussing from the Bettendorf and Bittner YMCAs.
Drop-off 7:30 -8:00 am; Pick-up 4:30-5:15 pm.
A full day of outdoor winter activities at Camp Abe Lincoln.
Snacks and hot lunch provided!

Bear Creek Winter Camp - Dec. 20-22
Winter Camp registration is now open! Parents, this retreat is the perfect opportunity for you to get the kids out of the house while you do some last-minute Christmas shopping and holiday prep. It’s 48 hours of fun, friends, and worship as we head into the Christmas season.

Young Emerging Writers Workshop - Every Month
Who: Writers 15-19 years old + Midwest Writing Center
What: "Write ins" Spend a couple hours writing with peers and critiquing one another's work
When: Second & Third Tuesdays of Each month, 5:30 - 8pm
Where: Second Tuesday is online, Third Tuesday is at MWC: ground floor of the Rock Island Public Library (401 19th St, Rock Island)
Cost: free
MWC is starting a new free program for young writers. Midwest Writing Center staff will lead these casual meetings which will open with 30 minutes of free writing with prompts and will be followed by workshop critiques. Guidelines will be discussed at the start of each meeting. MWC can assist with printing.
