Paraeducator Requirements

For our permanent para positions we will now accept an applicant that has:

  1. Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education; or
  2. Obtained an associate’s (or higher) degree; or
  3. Completed a COMPASS score cut-off at 150. The score of 150 was obtained by determining a Reading score of 57, a Writing score of 50 and a Math score of 43 were appropriate subscores for passing the COMPASS; or
  4. Obtained the Paraeducator Certificate through the Board of Educational Examiners. The courses for this certification can be taken through the AEA.

Applicants for our permanent para positions within our Early Childhood Special Education classes (Preschool) will be required to have:

  1. A Child Development Associate Credential (CDA); or
  2. Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education; or
  3. Obtained the Paraeducator Certificate with an early childhood concentration through the Board of Educational Examiners. The courses for this certification can be taken through the AEA.

The COMPASS test can be taken at Scott Community College. If you are interested in this assessment please call the SCC Testing Center at 441-4088 to schedule a testing time. HR will need copy of your assessment scores.

The Paraeducator certification can be taken through our local AEA. The link to courses is: http://www.solutionwhere.com/mbaea/cw/main.asp. Attached is also a document providing more information on the certification. Once the coursework is completed you will need to apply for a license through the BOEE.
