Serving on a school board is a challenging job that requires leadership, vision and dedication. A school board member is entrusted with one of the most important responsibilities that can be assigned to a citizen: ensuring that Iowa schools help students reach high levels of educational achievement.

Four positions in the seven-member Bettendorf Board of Education will be up for election this November.

Bettendorf Board of Education Directors completing their current 4-year terms this year: Paul Castro (18 years of service), Michael Pyevich (4 years of service), Stacey Struck (4 years of service), Gordon Staley (4 years of service).

Key School Board Election Dates for 2019

  • Aug. 26 - First day to file nomination papers with board secretary
  • Sept. 19 - Last day to file nomination papers
  • Sept. 24 - Last day candidates may withdraw; last day to file objections
  • Oct. 14 - Board Candidate Forum & Social (5:30 pm - Social | 6:15 pm - Candidate Forum)
  • Nov. 5 - Election Day - 7 am - 8 pm

The Iowa Association of School Boards will be presenting a workshop for anyone considering running for a school board position 6-7:30 pm on Wednesday, August 28, at the Davenport Community School District office, 1702 N. Main St. Davenport.
