The Employee of the Quarter Award recognizes Bettendorf Community School District staff members who provide exceptional service to others. Recipients demonstrate commitment to their job and/or school involvement above and beyond expectations.
Perry Bentsen is a remarkable educator. He is always looking for new and innovative ways to provide his students with real world, hands-on learning experiences. He has had his students host a staff potato bar, implement a morning coffee cart called "Mocha at the Middle", beautify the school grounds, and work with their peers in a Bulldog Block Buddy Club.
Mr. Bentsen is very knowledgeable about the needs of his students and does whatever is necessary for them to meet their goals. In addition to all the hours he puts into meeting the needs of his students, he somehow still finds the time and energy to give back to the entire school community. He has helped out with our building fundraisers, supervised after school events, led the district assistive technology team and served as a mentor to many.
Kitty is one of the most positive people that I have met. She works in a challenging environment with students who are not always happy to be at school. Her upbeat personality and ability to compartmentalize the emotional impact that the job sometimes entails is refreshing. She brings a ray of sunshine to the lives of many.
Kitty is an exceptionally intelligent individual and has a passion for science. She is able to make her curriculum come alive and be interesting to students even without equipment and labs. She not only teaches science concepts to students, but also acts as a mentor, advisor and positive influence in the lives of those she teaches.
