Bettendorf Community School District School Improvement Advisory Committee (SIAC) |
The School Improvement Advisory Committee is an advisory group made up of representatives from the community as well as the school district. Its purpose is to enhance the relationship between the school and the community and provides an avenue to get information and identify educational concerns from a different perspective. The committee can help assess District needs and set educational goals.
The committee monitors and analyses needs assessment data that address reading, mathematics, and science achievement progress. The committee makes recommendations to the school board on major educational needs, student learning goals, long range goals, and harassment and bullying initiatives.
Three major reports are presented and discussed each year: the Annual Progress Report (APR), a state report; the Annual Yearly Progress (AYP), a federal report directly linked to No Child Left Behind; and the Comprehensive School Improvement Plan. Other topics discussed during last year's meetings included an overview of the Iowa Core Curriculum, and changes in the structure of Special Education, the Extended Learning Program (ELP), the English as a Second Language (ESL) program, Prep Kindergarten and the Preschool program.
Meeting Dates Our first meeting for the 2011-2012 school year will be November 17 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm at the Mississippi Bend AEA. |
