Access all of the Iowa AEA Online Database from one place:  AccuWeather, AP Images, Atomic Learning, iClipArt for Schools, Learn 360, BookFLIX, Britannica Digital Learning, Gale - Cengage Learning, Culture Grams, SIRS Issue Researcher, soundzabound, and Teen Health & Wellness. To use these online databases you will need a username and password - which can be obtained from your building Media Specialist.

Even though the Iowa AEAs elected not to continue their statewide subscription to Discovery Education, the Bettendorf School District has signed a contract to continue this service for at least 3 more years.

Discovery Education contains more than 80,000 video clips, vitual labs, interactive segments, audio files, and lessons plans. In addition, you can setup your own classroom(s), deliver content to specific students or your entire class, create assignments and quizzes, make a puzzle, and organize the content you will use repeatively in you "My Content" folder.  There is also now a "Math Homework Help: section under the "Home Resources" tab.

Each of the Bettendorf students in grades 3-12 have been setup with their own individual student account (username and password for most students is the same as their network username and password. If that does not work, add "bcs" in front of their student ID username) so they too can utilize Discovery Education for their own research projects and develop their own "My Content".

If you or your students have any problems utilizing Discovery Education, please let the technology department know. (email:  mhartman@bettendorf.k12.ia.us)

Elementary School Resources

This is the new online program that we are utilizing in grades 3-5. Students in grades 3-5 should be familiar with this program and have accounts to access the online curriculum. The program is implemented by the Media Specialists in each building.

Connect with other teachers who use Tech4Learning tools like Pixie.

Find and share activities, themes, and templates for Pixie.

Free images to use in projects!

This website is dedicated to project ideas, students examples, and lesson resources using Pixie 2 for grades K-5.

This site has some great webinars.  There are little five-minute video overviews, as well as videos for implementation ideas.  At the bottom of the page there are also "Recorded Webinars".  I have watched the first three listed. They were all excellent.  Linda Oaks and Jill Przbylski do a great job in these webinars. I think they are definitely worth your time.

This site offers short videos on how to integrate Pixie into your curriculum.  Videos include "Support 6 + 1 Trait Writing with Pixie", "Using Pixie with Your Interactive Whiteboard", and "Using Pixie to Build Primary Language Arts Skills".  You can find some interesting and innovative ideas on how to use Pixie in your curriculum at this site.

This page provide Internet resources that elementary teachers may find value for Math, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts, and just "general" resources. As a teacher, you will want to explore what is available on these Internet sites and see which ones best correlate with your curriculum. My suggest would be to then put specific URLs onto your own webpage when you want students to access them.

Many of these resources would also work well with the Interactive Whiteboards for group instruction.
